The Auberge Nicolas Flamel in the Marais area of Paris' third district is the oldest restaurant in Paris, set up in 1407. It was originally a centre for poor people where they could come and pray, eat and stay if needed. It is now a gourmet restaurant that has maintained many of the features of the middle ages in the decor. Stone walls and wooden beams have been restored with care. The menu is exciting and changes frequently. The chef, Alan Geeam has a preference for traditional dishes adapted with Mediterranean spices. Try the leg of lamb cooked for over 7 hours or the lobster mille-feuille. For dessert try the chocolate gold bar Nicolas Flamel a reference to the famous alchemist who is the restaurant's namesake and founder.

Comments
We visited this lovely old restaurant last month. We met the chef and he was extremely cordial, even asking after we ate what we thought of his cuisine.
The foie gras was silken, the bass was delicate, the veal was tender and the beef was equally tender. The sauces were genius. And the molten chocolate cake with violet ice cream was the most orgasmic dessert in all of Paris.
To dine in the building that used to be the home of Nicolas Flamel, who was an actual Parisian sorcerer who was mentioned in the book "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," was like stepping back into 13th century history.
Combine all this with exemplarary service and this is a must visit for anyone who loves good food and history.
